Mechanisms proposed in the literature are compared with a current scenario for the formation of single-wall carbon nanotubes
in the laser-ablation process that is based on our spectral emission and laser-induced fluorescence measurements. It is suggested
that the carbon which serves as feedstock for nanotube formation not only comes from the direct ablation of the target, but
also from carbon particles suspended in the reaction zone. Fullerenes formed in the reaction zone may be photo-dissociated
into C2 and other low molecular weight species, and also may serve as feedstock for nanotube growth. Confinement of the nanotubes
in the reaction zone within the laser beam allows the nanotubes to be ‘purified’ and annealed during the formation process
by laser heating.

Dynamical models of string fluids areconstructed from the general energy-momentum tensor forstring fluids in general relativity and theEinstein-Cartan theories obtained from the Ray-Hilbertvariational principle. Examples of solutions to the fieldequations for general relativistic spacetimes are givenand compared with solutions obtained from the postulatedenergy-momentum tensor of Letelier. Solutions to the field equations in Riemann-Cartanspacetimes are compared with an extended Leteliersolution. All calculations are given for both thestandard and the extended thermodynamics versions inwhich the latter includes the string as thermodynamicvariables. In general relativity, it is shown for blackhole solutions that the general feature of strings(through the string vector) is to produce a shrinkage of the black hole horizon. In RiemannCartanspacetimes, the torsion field equation shows that stringvector can be identified with the torsion vector. Themost striking feature of strings in Riemann-Cartan spacetimes is that in the Reissner-Nordstromsolution, the addition of torsional strings produces thecorrect asympototic behavior of the metric necessary tomatch the experimental galactic rotationcurves. 相似文献

S-factors for direct capture reactions can be found at astrophysical energies from asymptotic normalization coefficients which
provide the normalization of the tail of the overlap function. For example the overlap for 8B → 7Be+p defines the S-factor for 7Be (p, γ)8B. Peripheral transfer reactions offer a technique to determine these asymptotic normalization coefficients. As a test of
the technique, the 16O(3He, d)17F reaction has been used to determine asymptotic normalization coefficients for transitions to the ground and first excited
states of 17F. The S-factors for 16O(p, γ)17F calculated from these 17F → 16O+p asymptotic normalization coefficients are found to be in very good agreement with recent measurements. Following the same
technique, the 10B(7Be, 8B)9Be and 14N(7Be, 8B)13C reactions have been used to measure the asymptotic normalization coefficient for 7Be(p, γ)8B. This result provides an indirect determination of S

The synthetic conditions for the isolation of the iron-molybdenum nanocluster FeMoC [HxPMo12O40 [subset]H4Mo72Fe30(O2CMe)15O254(H2O)98], along with its application as a catalyst precursor for VLS growth of SWNTs have been studied. As-prepared FeMoC is contaminated with the Keplerate cage [H4Mo72Fe30(O2CMe)15O254(H2O)98] without the Keggin [HxPMo12O40]n- template, however, isolation of pure FeMoC may be accomplished by Soxhlet extraction with EtOH. The resulting EtOH solvate is consistent with the replacement of the water ligands coordinated to Fe being substituted by EtOH. FeMoC-EtOH has been characterized by IR, UV-vis spectroscopy, MS, XPS and 31P NMR. The solid-state 31P NMR spectrum for FeMoC-EtOH (delta-5.3 ppm) suggests little effect of the paramagnetic Fe3+ centers in the Keplerate cage on the Keggin ion's phosphorous. The high chemical shift anisotropy, and calculated T1 (35 ms) and T2 (8 ms) values are consistent with a weak magnetic interaction between the Keggin ion's phosphorus symmetrically located within the Keplerate cage. Increasing the FeCl2 concentration and decreasing the pH of the reaction mixture optimizes the yield of FeMoC. The solubility and stability of FeMoC in H2O and MeOH-H2O is investigated. The TGA of FeMoC-EtOH under air, Ar and H2 (in combination with XPS) shows that upon thermolysis the resulting Fe : Mo ratio is highly dependent on the reaction atmosphere: thermolysis in air results in significant loss of volatile molybdenum components. Pure FeMoC-EtOH is found to be essentially inactive as a pre-catalyst for the VLS growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) irrespective of the substrate or reaction conditions. However, reaction of FeMoC with pyrazine (pyz) results in the formation of aggregates that are found to be active catalysts for the growth of SWNTs. Activation of FeMoC may also be accomplished by the addition of excess iron. The observation of prior work's reported growth of SWNTs from FeMoC is discussed with respect to these results. 相似文献
